Well, there goes one goal. It's been more than a month since my last post, for which I apologize- mostly to myself, for failing to keep a commitment. Apparently I fall somewhere below the "perfect" mark. But I'm workin' on that. ;) I figure I need to write shorter, more frequent posts if I'm going to keep this up. I'm not spiritually at a point where I can continue to write theological dissertations on a regular basis, anyhow. Sometimes the beauty, relevant things in life are short and sweet.
I have been struck many times by the beauty of God's creation, but sometimes a picture lesson jumps out at me while I gaze at the scenery around me. Recently, for instance, I took a walk alone under a starry sky. It wasn't one of those perfectly clear nights; there were clouds on the horizon and a faint layer of haze covered the stars. As the haze thickened, more and more and more of the stars disappeared from view. After some time, only a dozen of them were still visible. As I sat, stared, and pondered, the connection clicked: Christians, according to Jesus, are to be the light of the world. Together, we shine on a dark, sinful world. But when things get uncomfortable, how many of us cease to light the way for each other and those around us? Sadly, I believe, far too many of us tend to be that way. Nobody likes a fair-weather friend. How then can we not see the hypocrisy in being fair-weather Christians? Jesus calls us to be bold for him rain or shine, whether we be gladly received or violently opposed. We should be so vibrant every day that we shine through whatever circumstances we may be stuck in. Our Father has given us infinite spiritual power through His Son. Together, we can claim it- and use it to change the world for His glory.
